Our History

This historic home in Frankfort, the state capital of Kentucky, was built in 1837 by Alfred Z. Boyer. Throughout the years and has a long and storied history, being considered for the governor's Mansion or part of the Capital grounds, used as a boarding house, and family home to the Carl Norman family. through the years Carl Norman served as State Auditor, State Senator, and as a Major in the Confederate Army under General John Hunt Morgan. After remaining in the Norman Family for 84 years the home was purchased in 1970 by Juett Sheetinger, curator of the governor's Mansion.

When Mr. Sheetinger bought the home it was in terrible condition, and he would spend the next 30 years restoring the property. In July of 2002 Gary and Rose Burke bought the property with the dream of converting it into a Bed & Breakfast. After a year and a half, they were able to open The Meeting House Bed and Breakfast and enjoyed 20 years as a successful business.

As the clock stops for no man, the time came where the Burke's reached the point where it was time to look forward to a well-earned retirement .

Enter Brad & Bridget Peters

Bringing 28 years of restaurant ownership experience, Brad and Bri look forward to carrying on the Burke's tradition of hospitality. and good cheer.  Brad brings 45 years' experience in the liquor/hospitality industries, having been a liquor store clerk, fine wine shoppe manager, distributor route salesman, and for the last 28 years owning a bar & grill and also a full-service restaurant owner. Bridget (everyone calls her "Bri") has always been the steadying force, working Monday through Friday jobs and supporting/helping out on the weekends. Her accounting background assures all the back scenes bookkeeping stuff is addressed as well as reining in Brad's flights of fancy. Together we make a good team.

Breakfast

Leaving full service restaurants for a B&B is a nice step-down, but we cannot fully escape the restaurant trade. Brad’s multi-course breakfasts will leave you satisfied & ready to start your day. For your afternoons we can recommend some locally owned places to shop, visit, eat, or drink. We plan on renovating the courtyard cafe at the rear of the house to offer locally sourced spirits and cocktails, so after your day trip, enjoy a late-afternoon snack and beverage for a chance to refresh before hitting your night-time destinations.
